Mister and Miss Xavier hosted a recreational dodgeball game in the Xavier University Fitness Center. The event was held on Sept. 6 to kick off the new school year getting students active and encouraging them to bond with one another. Students competed in teams of four with a chance to win cash prizes.

While several groups participated, not everyone was able to join in the action. Dilon Parker, a senior business major, came to the event but couldn’t compete on Friday. “I was really looking forward to it but missed the sign-up deadline,” Parker said. “Watching it now, I really wish I could’ve been out there.”

Mister and Miss Xavier, who organized the event as part of their duties on the Royal Court, were able to attract a large turnout with over thirty students. The tournament featured three referees, who helped keep the fast-paced games on time.

“I used to play volleyball, so I love watching games like this,” said Nylah Briggs, a former volleyball player and psychology student. Briggs said she came to see who would take home the prizes, but she ended up staying for the rest of games.

The crowd was most excited during the championship round. There were two remaining players on each side. When one of the teams was down to one player, the crowd erupted as the lone player made daring moves to avoid getting hit.

“Honestly, I came because I was bored, but it’s actually a lot of fun to watch,” said Kaila Dancy, a chemistry major. “People are really into it,” she added.

The event brought together students from various organizations, including members of the Divine Nine, Royal Court, and members from different Xavier sports teams. The students who were triumphant in their round received gifts as a personal trophy from this night’s event.
