Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco Drop Duet Album That Hits All the Feels

By Corbin Johnson

I never thought, after Selena Gomez said, “Acting is what I’m focused on, right?” that she would ever release new music again. It seemed like Gomez had moved on from the music industry after her 2020 album Rare and was ready to pursue acting full-time. Still, it looks like her man Benny Blanco said, “AHT AHT, you’re gonna remind people why you’re theeSelena Gomez,” and from that, he and Gomez collaborated on their duet album I Said I Love You.

This is something different from Gomez, as her last album aimed to be a stripped-down project. This one, however, shows her as a new person—a person in love—and how that love inspired her to create an album that sticks with you emotionally and mentally.

Blanco, Gomez’s fiancé, has worked with hitmakers such as Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Rihanna, and he doesn’t miss a beat with any of the songs here. Some tracks bring out the party animal, the sad animal, and the longing-for-love animal. The title track, a voice memo featuring Gomez talking, encapsulates what this album is about. She shares how she has changed since meeting Blanco and how love has transformed her.

The record features slow songs perfect for playing while speeding down a highway at sunset with your lover, as well as club-ready tracks that’ll have you bopping. It’s not Gomez’s best album, but it’s a solid record that tells a love story reminiscent of old 1950s films, with music that evokes nostalgia, love, and the feeling of meeting your soulmate for the first time.

Gomez’s new album is streaming everywhere, and more music videos are on the way.
