It’s that time of year again! The HBCU Legacy Career Fair has made its way back to New Orleans, Louisiana, and HBCU college students are excited to get new opportunities to work.

The HBCU Career Fair is an annual event that takes place in February at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and is sponsored by Allstate. This year it took place from February 22nd to the 23rd. There were many students from different colleges that attended.

“I come to this event every year in hopes to help college students find their way into the real world,” said Antoinette Barksdale, a worker for the Department of Justice Civil Rights. “I love explaining to them about what I do and giving them information about how they can get involved in the government.”

Around the room were booths with Coca Cola, Allstate, New Orleans Saints, Adidas, Bank of America, United States Department of State, Cisco, New Orleans Pelicans and many more.

Students had the opportunity to go to each booth and ask about job offers or internships with the company.

“Since I graduated college last year, I have been working for the HBCU Legacy Bowl full time,” said Madison Smith. “I like working with my peers and coming to the career fair. Although my favorite part would have to be the football game at the end of the weekend,” Smith says.

After the career fair, students, family and friends traveled to Tulane for the game. The legacy bowl includes the best football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the country. The game was broadcasted on the NFL Network.

“I think the game is a great experience and really showcases the talent of HBCU students,” said Cicely Miller, a graduating senior at Xavier University of Louisiana. “My favorite part of the game is the halftime show with the band. The band was huge and seeing the HBCU culture was amazing to me.”

The 2024 HBCU Legacy Bowl was not only a showing of black excellence on the football field, but an opportunity for HBCU students everywhere. From the informative career fair and the coming together of students everywhere, this event showcased the unity and excellence of black culture.
