Chi Alpha makes a return for the second year in a row, in which they provided members with the opportunity to enjoy mini golf and desserts. This Xavier University of Louisiana’s campus ministry organization hosted a Putt Putt and Beignets event on Friday, Sept. 23. The event was held at one of New Orleans historical landmarks, City Park, at their City Putt and Café Du Monde, where beignets were had. The university has a thriving faith-based culture because it was the first historically black Catholic university.

As a result of this great history, Chi Alpha Chrisitan Fellowship was produced. Chi Alpha was established in 2015, but due to previous leaders transitioning out of Chi Alpha, the club was dormant until it was revived last year. The purpose of Chi Alpha is to provide students with the opportunity to develop and hone their faith.

“It’s for students to learn about God, grow in their faith, grow in community with each other and to find their family on campus,” said Isaac Fulton, a campus pastor for Chi Alpha Chrisitan Fellowship at Xavier University of Louisiana.

Fulton, who attended the University of New Orleans was a member of UNO’s Chi Alpha organization. When he joined Chi Alpha, it changed his perspective on Christianity. After college, he felt a call from God to build Chi Alpha at other universities. Fulton initially started within Tulane University, but now he and his wife have moved to Xavier. Their desire is to give other students the same experience they received, Fulton said.

“We’re more than just a student organization, we strive to be a family. Going to fun events, like Café Du Monde and City Putt foster that reality of family, where you have experience that’ll last a long time,” said Morgan Fulton, a campus pastor for Chi Alpha Chrisitan Fellowship at Xavier University of Louisiana.

The university is the most strategic mission field in the world, Fulton said. With this, Fulton believes that there are people who come from all over the world and different countries, coming together in one place, living together. And then going out into society. In this space and time of their life where they are making decisions about life, Chi Alpha serves to uplift students in their most time of need.

“Chi Alpha helped me grow as a leader and form community with other Christian students on campus. It has also developed my ability to interpret God’s word and share it with others,” said Nasir Roberts, the vice-president of Chi Alpha at Xavier.

This event will not be the only event that Chi Alpha plans to provide for its members. Chi Alpha desires to present to its members and community that worshipping God does not always have to be at a chapel or church.

“Life with the Lord is best lived out in everyday life, it’s not just a life group, or bible study, it’s also at a Café Du Monde and praying for a worker, where you love on Him [God] there,” Morgan said.

“This is all a part of life together, that’s why we do it,” Morgan said.
