Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco Reignite Pop Magic with ‘Sunset Blvd’

By Corbin Johnson
It’s been a while since any of the Disney girls released a pop anthem that has us blasting it from the car and screaming out the lyrics—but today, that has changed. Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have released a new song, “Sunset Blvd,” one of the tracks from their collaborative album, I Said I Love You First.
Gomez hasn’t had a record this strong since Revival, which featured “Same Old Love,” “Good for You,” and “Hands to Myself”—all top 10 hits. In “Sunset Blvd,” Gomez proclaims that she wants new love but with a different approach. This track is also one of Blanco’s best productions in years, on par with his past work with Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Rihanna.
The “Sunset Blvd” music video brings a 1950s-inspired setting to life, following Gomez and Blanco on a fun night out as they reminisce about their first date at a restaurant on Sunset Boulevard.
Gomez is back in her element—the style that made her a pop superstar—whisper pop, where she thrives with sultry vocals over a loud, thumping beat. “Sunset Blvd” is effortless for Gomez; she glides through the track with her signature voice changes, delivering a jaw-dropping bridge that will make you scream (yes, literally). The moment is stunning, not only in the video but also in the song’s production.
Gomez and Blanco are a perfect combination—both romantically and musically—and their styles complement each other in a way that creates an undeniable earworm. While Gomez had taken a break from music, her fiancé pulled her out of retirement, and she’s back better than ever, ready to show where she’s been these past few years.
I Said I Love You First will be released on March 21.
